BOOK GIVEAWAY: Feminine Appeal

MM2I love to read books. I have often begun and finished a book in less than two days. And I have an ever-growing list of books that I’d love to read. However, I also have all the duties that a mother of 3, wife, and homemaker include. And so, I’ve recently realized that I need to be very selective with what I choose to spend my time reading. Of course, the Bible should be my top choice. I think it’s important to put aside the novels and spend time reading books by godly people who desire for others to have a real relationship with God, doing His will and living to please Him.

One such author is Carolyn Mahaney. In addition to having a website for women, written with the help of her three daughters, she and her husband, C.J., have written numerous books about God’s word and our relationship with Him and others. One of those books, Feminine Appeal has recently touched me in a very deep way. After the recommendation by several friends, I bought the book and couldn’t put it down. Although it’s an easy read, it’s no easy read! The Holy Spirit used this book to convict me to examine the kind of wife and mother I am. I realized that I have so much growing to do, especially when interacting with my husband and children.

Feminine Appeal addresses seven virtues of a godly wife and mother, including loving our husbands and children, self-control, purity, kindness, and submission. Mahaney does a wonderful job of interpreting God’s word, using Titus 2 to show how God commands women to conduct themselves. This is an excellent book, one that you will refer back to again and again. Pray that in addition to His word, God will use this book to help you examine your attitude and relationships with others.

  1. Lisa, first I wanted to say that this book reminds me of one called “Created to be His Helpmeet” by Debi Pearl. Check it out- I think you’d like it. The Pearls have a magazine called “No Greater Joy” -I believe they have a website. Anyway, just thought I’d tell you that.

One of the things that I would like to see discussed would be witnessing. I’ve always been a little freaked about approaching someone… and it’s hard to know what to say sometimes.
That, or else emotional purity. I think this is a topic that should be discussed.

  2. I would like to see a review of Bible study books/ideas for Moms. (not about parenting)

  3. i would love more teen articles

  4. Shieldmaiden says

Hello! I would like to get in! A book I really like is called DO Hard Things, and it might be a good one…!

  5. One of my favorite Christian books is an old one–The Will of God, by Leslie D. Weatherhead. My grandma had a copy which she passed on to my mom, and after my mom lent me hers, I bought one of my own. It’s really short, but it’s a series of three sermons given during WWII on how to reconcile God’s love for us with the bad things that happen in the world. A really thought-provoking read that I’ve shared with many others.

  6. I love to read Christian Fiction Series. I really enjoy the sisterchick books!

  7. I would love to read this book! I know it would be helpful for me personally, my marriage and as I prepare to become a mother in April!

  8. I too enjoy reading but until recently have not had the time or energy to put into my “hobby”. I have just today came across this web journal and have done nothing but explore it and read! Thank you for putting this together and the service it provides. I have sent the link to each teen girl and college student in our congregation.

I plan on visiting our college bookstore tomorrow and look for some of the books suggested!

  9. I’m a newlywed and am learning A LOT about being flexible now that I’m living with a boy. The hardest thing is learning to be FLEXIBLE for my husband as I adjust my routines to include him in my life. It’d be great to see something that addresses this stage.
    Nice site!

  10. A book that may be among my favorites is “a woman after God’s own heart” by Elizabeth George. So much to work through on it!

  11. a favorite Christian bookstore would be Lifeway….they have a great selection!

  12. My husband is a youth minister and as yet we have no children. But, I like to read parenting books to pass along to the parents of our youth group. The one that I’m sharing right now with everyone is Teaching True Love to a Sex at 13 Generation by Eric & Leslie Ludy. I think it is so important to look at some of these major issues while your kids are still small to head off problems before they become too big.
